LOVE:THIRTEEN, the solo album by Dean Marino, Out Today!

It’s Friday the 13th! LOVE:THIRTEEN is officially available for download. CDs and limited edition C40 Cassettes are also available from our good friends at Flowerpot Records! Here is Dean’s official statement (made yesterday):

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th. It marks an important occasion for me because my full-length solo album, LOVE:THIRTEEN will be properly available for download ($5) from Bandcamp and streaming on Spotify (and other platforms, but decidedly not Amazon). CDs ($10) and limited edition red-tinted C40 (normal bias) Cassettes ($7) are also available for order.

I would like to thank Wes Meadows at Flowerpot Records for their support as well as everyone who attended my live stream last week or checked out the first single, Three of Swords. Your presence and words mean a lot to me!
LOVE:THIRTEEN did not come cheaply. As many of you know, making music is hardly ever a profitable endeavour and almost always (with very few exceptions) a personal calling or labour of love that, although necessary to the artist’s well-being, even survival, nevertheless can take a toll (and I am not speaking strictly in monetary terms either). More than ever, I believe it’s important to support artists, especially artists who are local and independent. I could go on about just how difficult it is being an independent recording artist under these particular circumstances, but that is not my way… Rather, I ask you to consider that every Download/CD/Cassette purchased from an indie artist (or through a small, truly-indie label, such as Flowerpot Records) is literally adding vital blood to the lifeline of said artists – financially and emotionally/spiritually.
If you take pleasure, comfort, solace, pride or commiseration in an artist’s output, if an artist’s output turns your ear, introduces you to a new way of hearing, makes you think, or otherwise affects you in a meaningful way, then you should really support them in a meaningful way (i.e. in the way they are asking for support). Nuff said…
If you were a follower of my previous work with Papermaps, I think you will find this album, LOVE:THIRTEEN, to be a bit of departure (and yet feel familiar at the same time). I don’t think I’ve ever made the same sort of record twice (but that’s really for you to decide). Hope you like it. Hope it moves you.
Thanks everyone
Dean Marino

Show at Dundas Video Feb 11 – Toronto

It’s been a while…we are playing a show, Thursday February 11 at Dundas Video to celebrate a couple of milestones.

First milestone is the “quiet/soft release” of a new PAPERMAPS song – the first in nearly 3 years. “Be Real,” dropped on a recent Chart Attack blog post along with several other Toronto luminaries and new-comers. I want to thank the seminal Canadian music blog (one-time print mag) for tagging our name in the post – it’s nice to have not completely disappeared – although I don’t blame anyone for having forgotten us; three years is a whole generation in local-indie terms. Thanks to our friends (and studio-mates) PEERS for including us on their excellent mixtape series: Phi Rho Sigma presents Pledge 1, which launches February 4 at the venerable Horseshoe Tavern. I can’t wait to get a copy.

The second milestone to celebrate is that we have written all the new material for our upcoming full-length album, tentatively titled, Confessions. Subsequently, our set on Feb 11 at Dundas Video will be completely comprised of this new material – it’s like a sneak preview (or leak) of the new album, but live! We’ll be on at 10PM, just before Lampshades, a new Toronto band you should really check out.

About Shadow Theatre (The Music Video)

Time to share, share, share our latest video directly.  So here it is.
Directed by Daniel Ehrenworth, here is a hidden narrative woven into juxtaposed scenes comprised of found footage, symbolic objects and meticulously constructed scenes involving two actresses interspersed with circuit-bent VHS footage of the lead vocalist (i.e. me). Enjoy mentally dissecting this!
Kudos to Timur Musabay for his analogue circuit bending skills.

The Premier of Shadow Theatre Music Video

Hi All,

Our latest music video, Shadow Theatre is up on the Indie88 website today.  Please have a look!

http://indie88.com/video-premiere-papermaps-shadow-theatre/

“The video marks the directorial debut of photographer Daniel Ehrenworth. Through distorted lenses, decomposing videotape, and discarded old film, he tells an interwoven story of past lives, performing birds, and a naked lady bound to a staircase.”

We’re very excited!

Cheers,

-dean
