Outta the Loop – Live Tonight!

Hey,

As always, it’s been a while. We are playing an early show TONIGHT (Monday July 11) at my-new-favourite-videodrome-themed-bar Dundas Video. We are doing this to support the very-excellent psych-rock-garage outfit from Cincinnati OH: Orchards. Joining us is Toronto’s own Yeomans. Why I did not rave about this earlier is beyond me – I guess I’ve been busy here on the home front. If you are lucky enough to be reading this in a timely manner you should really, really go.

I’ve given you the relevant links….now go!

June 17 – Junction City Music Hall – New Sounds

It’s been a while since we have played live and I’m excited to announce a hometown date: Friday, June 17 at Junction City Music Hall.  Here’s a link to the venue website:

Here’s the Facebook Event (join!): https://www.facebook.com/events/1002416143208741/

Also on the bill are the amazing Beams and The Nursery – two great Toronto fixtures worthy of your discriminating attention!

Maybe you haven’t seen us since we’ve gone all weird and metal or broody or since I became a dad or stopped cutting my hair…Well, we’re not anymore “metal” or “weird” than we ever were – if you think that then maybe you never really got us anyway (well, maybe we’re a bit more broody, if anything) . Then again, who wants to recreate the same sound over and over again? People change. They grow. Don’t expect the same album from papermaps over and over again. Don’t expect the same papermaps either.  BTW, if you love the old stuff, remember: music lives forever. It has it’s own place in the universe and most of it dwells right here, on the internet (and hopefully in some dusty playlists on some device of future’s past).

Anyway, come judge for yourself…come to the show…

Meanwhile, we’ve been working on this new album and leading up to finishing that I’ve been posting little sample “vignettes” of new music. Here they all are, all collected in one place.

Humbly yours,
-dean

Show at Dundas Video Feb 11 – Toronto

It’s been a while…we are playing a show, Thursday February 11 at Dundas Video to celebrate a couple of milestones.

First milestone is the “quiet/soft release” of a new PAPERMAPS song – the first in nearly 3 years. “Be Real,” dropped on a recent Chart Attack blog post along with several other Toronto luminaries and new-comers. I want to thank the seminal Canadian music blog (one-time print mag) for tagging our name in the post – it’s nice to have not completely disappeared – although I don’t blame anyone for having forgotten us; three years is a whole generation in local-indie terms. Thanks to our friends (and studio-mates) PEERS for including us on their excellent mixtape series: Phi Rho Sigma presents Pledge 1, which launches February 4 at the venerable Horseshoe Tavern. I can’t wait to get a copy.

The second milestone to celebrate is that we have written all the new material for our upcoming full-length album, tentatively titled, Confessions. Subsequently, our set on Feb 11 at Dundas Video will be completely comprised of this new material – it’s like a sneak preview (or leak) of the new album, but live! We’ll be on at 10PM, just before Lampshades, a new Toronto band you should really check out.

First Show of 2015!

Hello. It’s been a while. We’ve been total shut-ins, yes. So what’s happening then? Well, we’re still working on new material and some of it is ready to test.
