For the Love of Art

Hi All,

We’ve been quite busy these past few days preparing the artwork for our self-titled album, papermaps, due for release April 19th on Sparks/EMI.   Each of us had different tasks.  I selected the cover painting (more on that later) and did the general layout while Todd composed the liner notes. Wendy, Todd and Lesley helped with proofreading and Bobby put is two cents in regarding text placement and credits.  I’d also like to thank Christine at Sparks/Sumners Graphics for her help with finalizing the layout.  It was exciting and rewarding to have complete creative control over an aspect of music that I feel is still vitally important.  Our album cover features a beautiful painting by fine artist Miyoshi Kondo (www.miyoshikondo.com).  I won’t tell you which piece we are using on our album — maybe you can hazard a guess?  I saw Miyoshi’s work during the annual Queen West Art Crawl here in Toronto, way back in September (before we even completed tracking). I fell in love with her work, which has bold lines and beautiful bold colours rendered in gouache on paper. Right away I felt her style suited the music.

Here’s another site with a review of her work: http://www.akimbo.ca/exhibitions/?id=19871

Very excited,
